January 15th 2026

On Thursday 15th January, the Year 10 and 11 girls’ badminton team represented the school in the Havering Borough Competition held at Harrow Lodge Sports Centre. The team’s first match was against Emerson Park and proved to be a fiercely contested encounter. Holly secured a strong win in her singles match, while Year 10 player Lola and Year 11 player Hayley also claimed victories in their singles games. Holly and Lola went on to win their doubles match, resulting in an overall victory for Abbs Cross.

The second match against Hall Mead was a closely fought battle, with momentum swinging back and forth throughout. Holly won her singles match, and she and Lola were again successful in the doubles, contributing to a competitive overall score of 7–1.

The final pool match against Coopers proved to be the toughest challenge of the day. Although Holly and Lola managed an impressive win in their doubles match, the team were unable to secure enough victories in the remaining games, meaning they narrowly missed out on progressing from the pool stages and instead entered the plate competition.

In the first plate match, the team faced Hall Mead once again. Holly delivered a confident performance to win her singles match 7–1; however, Hall Mead proved too strong overall, and Abbs Cross were defeated in the remaining games.

Our next fixture against Hall Mead proved to be a challenging encounter. Holly delivered an excellent performance in the singles, recording a convincing 7–1 victory. Despite this strong result, the remaining singles matches were lost, giving Hall Mead the overall edge in the fixture.

The final match of the afternoon was against Emerson Park, where the team responded with a series of impressive performances. Holly continued her fine form with a dominant 7–1 win in her singles match. In the doubles, Hayley and Lola both secured strong 7–3 victories in their respective games. Holly and Lola also paired up successfully, winning their doubles match 7–1.

Despite the tough competition, the team demonstrated excellent determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament and should be proud of their performances. Overall, it was a great afternoon of competitive tennis with several standout performances. Well done to all players for their effort and commitment.
