GCSE PE rock climbing trip- Thriftwood scout camp.

On Thursday 1st October, the PE Department led the next stage of the GCSE Rock Climbing assessment at Thriftwood Scout Camp. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and productive day, with all students showing exemplary behaviour and commitment throughout the trip.

The day was divided into two key assessment components:

Part 1 – Skills Practice

The morning session focused on essential climbing skills. Students worked on knot tying, putting into practice the techniques they had been rehearsing during recent lunchtime sessions. They also gained further experience in belaying and harness work, ensuring they were fully prepared for the performance element of the assessment.

Part 2 – Performance Assessment

In the afternoon, students undertook their full climbing assessment. The rock face offered routes of varying difficulty, ranging from beginner-friendly climbs to advanced challenges, including a demanding overhang section.

Several students excelled, with Sergen and Lucas performing particularly well on the toughest routes, showcasing both skill and determination. All students gained valuable marks towards the practical element of their GCSE PE course, demonstrating progress, resilience, and teamwork.

The trip was a great success, reflecting the hard work and dedication of the students as they continue their journey through the GCSE PE programme.
