Very early on Wednesday 14th October, 23 Year 9 Abbs Cross students, along with Mrs White, Mr Coen and Miss Buckley began their journey to Paris, France for a three day trip where they would have the opportunity to practise their language skills and immerse themselves in French culture.
During the trip, the students were able to see iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame cathedral and the Arc de Triomphe, as well as visiting the Louvre to see the world famous glass triangle and enjoy a stroll down the iconic Champs-Elysées in the Autumn sunshine. Additionally, they enjoyed a shopping trip to Montmartre where they were also able to view the Sacré Coeur cathedral as well as take in spectacular views of the city. They also visited Sainte-Chapelle to see the beautiful stained glass windows and L’Orangerie Art Museum to see the world famous Waterlilies by Monet before enjoying a picnic lunch in the sunshine in the Jardins des Tuileries.
Many of the students enjoyed the chance to try French delicacies such as crêpes throughout their visit and they were proud of their efforts to practise their language skills with the shopkeepers and local people. The students were given an opportunity to not only try the local delicacies but also to make their own at a farm on the outskirts of Paris. The students enjoyed making and trying their own versions of Quiche Lorraine but were not overly thrilled about wearing a hairnet!
To finish the trip, students were taken to a hypermarket and given a chance to see what typical French produce looks like. Many of them enjoyed browsing the different aisles and buying some souvenirs of their trip to take home. This also gave them a chance to practise their transactional language in a real life setting.
The students appreciated and enjoyed their time in Paris with many of them expressing a desire to return in the future to continue to explore the French capital and some were even keen to spend some time living there in the future! The sights that they had seen and the experiences that they had really inspired and motivated them to feel confident about their French studies and their speaking skills.
Many thanks to the students for their excellent behaviour, conduct and enthusiasm throughout the trip and to the staff who gave up their time to accompany them.
