  • No Pens Day –

On Friday 1st December, Year 7 and Year 8 students took part in 'No Pens Day' in their English lessons, supporting Speech and Language UK, a charity that works to support 'every child who is facing challenges with talking and understanding words, [supporting them] so that they can look to the future with confidence'. Students were able to make a small donation if they wished and we raised £90 for the cause. We hope to celebrate the day across more departments, helping to support young people across the UK so 'they aren't left behind, waiting to be understood'.

  • Festive Activity Workshops -

The Design & Technology Department were pleased to welcome Year 7 and 8 students and parents to Festive Activity Workshops. They had the opportunity to design and make their own Christmas decorations and festive tea light holders, using the laser cutter to produce excellent outcomes.

They were wonderful evenings, offering parents an insight into what their child was studying in DT as well as spreading some festive cheer!

  • British Army STEM and leadership day –

Year 10 students were fortunate to have the British Army join Abbs Cross on the 14th December for a day of STEM related tasks which were designed to develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and said that they gained a lot from it.

We visited the following places:

  • Ernst & Young Business Studies trip –

On the 1st December another group of aspiring Y10 students took part in an ‘insight day’ at Ersnt & Young in London Bridge. The event included students taking part in a finance project and gaining first-hand experience of working in a professional environment. The students were fully immersed in activities on offer and were really excited to hear how to pursue a career at EY. All the students commented on how inspired they felt and how they wanted to come back next year!

  • Year 7 bowling trip -

On the 5th December a group of 23 Year 7 were rewarded with a bowling trip to Romford for their amazing attendance and positive achievement in these two first terms of school.

  • Guardian and Observer trip -

On Thursday 7th December, a group of 26 Year 10 students visited the Guardian and Observer offices in Kings Place, London to take part in an opinion writing workshop and learn about the working day of a journalist. Everyone came away with a planned opinion piece of their own to write up and use towards their Spoken Language Endorsement.

  • Year 9 Belgium trip -

On Monday 11th December 54 Year 9 students went to Belgium on a History trip for the day. The students went to Essex Farm Cemetery, Langemark Cemetery and Tyne Cot Cemetery before ending the 4 hour tour at Menin Gate. Students were able to visit where heavy fighting once took place in the First World War.

  • Year 10 Bowling trip –

On Monday 18th December 31 Yr10 students were rewarded with a bowling trip to Romford for their amazing attendance and positive achievement in their first term of Yr10.

  • Mousetrap theatre trip -

The Drama department took our GCSE Year 11 Drama students on the tube to Central London for our theatre trip to The Mousetrap. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the murder mystery narrative and became 'partners in crime' once the killer was revealed - being sworn to secrecy by the cast to keep the mystery alive for future theatre goers! Lots of notes were made on the fantastic staging and set design as well as costume and lighting elements, giving our students a wealth of information to discuss for their final Live Theatre Review section of their GCSE written paper in May next year!
