On 24th April 2016 I ran the mini London Marathon for Barking and Dagenham. I had to be at Becontree Leisure Centre at 6:30 am; an early start for me. I was entered for the U13 age category, which meant that my race started at 8:08 am. I was expected to finish the three mile race in roughly nineteen minutes, so I was completely surprised when I finished with a time of 17:56 minutes.
During my race I was pleased to see my parents, some old teachers and general members of the public lining the event and cheering me along. As well as my medal, I received some accessories, a gift bag and a great deal of pride, finishing 23rd out of 187 entrants… this was a personal best as I had achieved 150th out of 157 in previous years. I had trained for 4 months and was glad to see that this extra effort had really paid off.
