Within the month of January

Students in Years 7-11 received PSCHE lessons on the topics of:

  • Year 7 – Friendship Groups, Puberty,
  • Year 8 – Values, Racism, Body Image
  • Year 9 – What is CSE?, Martin Luther King, Radicalisation
  • Year 10 – Knife Crime, CSE, Human Rights
  • Year 11 – Mental Health, Tracking, Interview Skills

Assemblies covered:

  • Year 7 – Values, Celebrating Diversity, Holocaust Memorial Day
  • Year 8 – Values, Celebrating Diversity, Holocaust Memorial Day
  • Year 9 – Values, Options
  • Year 10 – Values, Celebrating Diversity, Holocaust Memorial Day
  • Year 11 – Values, Celebrating Diversity, National Citizen Service: “The Challenge”

Pupils took part in several events, including:

  • The first Abbs Cross Futures Evening was held. Pupils in Key Stage 4 took part in workshops with eight representatives of different professions. These included the RAF, the sport and leisure industry, medicine, the police, civil service, catering, retail and law.
  • Sixteen Year 11 pupils went to see a performance of ‘The Woman in Black’.
  • Twelve Year 11 pupils took part in a Further Maths A Level taster day at Loxford School.
  • Pupils in Year 11 visited Queens College and Peterhouse College at the University of Cambridge.
  • Abbs Cross won the KS3 and KS4 Secondary Dance Competition and will progress to the next round, hosted at The Copperbox in the 2012 London Olympic Park.
  • Pupils from Year 7, 8, and 9 spent a day at the Harry Potter studios.

Pupils have taken part in charitable causes:

  • .Year 10 pupils volunteered their time helping at a local food bank for Shelter.

Sporting Events:

  • Year 11 have made their way into the Essex Cup semi-final after a 2-0 victory at home.
  • Year 10 played Coopers in basketball and won 43-33, and won 48-18 against Marshals Park.
  • Year 8 and 9 took part in a badminton tournament at Harris Academy. Congratulations to Year 8 who won.
  • 8C and 7M won the interform table tennis competitions for Year 8 and 7 respectively.
