  • Please note: the majority of our events require advance booking and payment to secure a place unless otherwise stated. 
  • Most of our events take place outside so please come prepared for the day’s weather with suitable clothing and footwear to stay safe and comfortable.

Every Monday – Drop in between 10.30am-12.30pm

Come along to improve your computer and digital skills with help and advice from one of our friendly volunteers.  We can help you with anything from setting up email accounts to ordering shopping online or using Skype.  Bring along your laptop, tablet, phone or camera for help with your own device.

No need to book.  Meet at Ingrebourne Valley Visitor Centre reception desk.  Free of charge

 

Little Badgers – Parent and Toddler Group

Every Tuesday and Friday (including School Holidays) – 10.30am-midday

Indoor and outdoor fun for toddlers and pre-schoolers with their parents and carers;

woodland play, stories, learning through play and exploration.

£6 donation in advance per child per session, £4 additional siblings.  First session free taster

 

Free Buggy Walks

Every Tuesday (including School Holidays) – 1.30pm-2.15pm

Bring your little one in their pram or buggy for a brisk 45 minute led walk around Hornchurch Country Park.  Enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings while meeting new friends.

No need to book.  Meet outside Ingrebourne Valley Visitor Centre.  Free of charge

 

Country Crafts Felt Flowers

Sunday 4th March – Drop in between 1.00pm-2.30pm

Craft a flower from Felt made from Alpaca Wool and attach to a broach pin.  Perfect for Mother’s Day.

Minimum age 8 years old.  Donation £6 per child

 

Introduction to the Birds and other Wildlife of the Ingrebourne

Every second Saturday of the month – 10th March 2018 – 10.00am-midday

Join us on a walk around Hornchurch Country Park and the surrounding Living Landscape to experience the fantastic array of wildlife that the valley holds.  Suitable for beginners.  Binoculars and scopes will be available to use.  Meet at the visitor centre.  £5 donation in advance per person, booking essential

 

Mother’s Day Craft Drop-In

Saturday 10th March –10.00am-11.00am, 11.30am-12.30pm

A drop-in craft event to celebrate Mother’s Day.  Make something special for your Mum to keep in time for Mother’s Day.  Suitable for ages 3+.  Donation £3 per child

 

Hawke Optics Day

Sunday 11th March 2018 – Drop in between 11.00am-3.00pm

Come and speak to our resident expert Brenda about the range of optics we have in store to see what will best suit you. We have optics for every price range

 

Sponsored Guided Dog Walk

Sunday 18th March 2018 – REGISTERING Starts at 10:00 – The walks will set off at 11:00

A guided dog walk approximately 3.4km/2.5 miles in length (a shorter walk will also be available) to explore Hornchurch Country Park and the surrounding Landscape with your furry friend raising funds for Essex Wildlife Trust and the Retired Greyhounds Owners Association. The walk is open to all breeds and a goody bag will be provided to each entrant. There will be dog related stalls and refreshments outside the visitor centre. No need to book just turn up on the day to register. Dogs are required to be on a lead for the duration of the walk.  £5 donation per dog

 

Merlins Bird Watching Club for Young People

Every Thursday in the school holidays and one Saturday per month during term time

Saturday 24th March – 10.30am-12.30pm

Named after the Merlin engines that once powered RAF Hornchurch’s Spitfires.  Armed with binoculars, bird guide and notepad (all provided), join Brenda our birdwatching guide to spot, observe and identify the bird life of Hornchurch Country Park.  Suitable for children aged 8+ (unaccompanied).  £6 donation in advance per child per session, £4 additional siblings

 

Birdie Birds – A Sociable Bird Watching Club for Women

One Sunday per month – Sunday 25th March – 10.00am-12.00pm

Join our friendly and knowledgeable volunteer Brenda and enjoy a walk around Hornchurch Country Park and surrounding areas spotting and identifying birds and other wildlife along the way.

£5 donation in advance per person, booking essential

 

EASTER FUN WEEKEND

Saturday 31st March & Sunday 1st April – 11.00am-1.00pm

Come along for some great Easter fun, including Easter craft, badge making, face painting, and more.  Meet the Easter bunny and receive your egg.  Please dress to suit the weather.

Donation £6 per child, £1 per adult

Monday 2nd April – Drop in between 1.00pm-2.30pm

Make a Bunny or Butterfly for Easter from Natural Seeds and Pulses.  Minimum age 8 years old.  Donation £6 per child

 

PIRATES IN THE PARK

Wednesday 4th April – 10.00am-11.00am, 11.30am-12.30pm

Join us aboard the pirate ship in the woods to set sail on an adventure to find the buried treasure chest.  Find the items on a scavenger hunt, make small boats and pirate craft to take home.  Suitable for ages 3+.  Please dress to suit the weather.  Donation £6 per child

 

BUG HUNTING

Friday 6th April – 1.00pm-2.00pm, 2.30pm-3.30pm

Come and explore the different habitats at Hornchurch Country Park.  Go on a Bug Hunt and find many of the insects that live in the Ingrebourne Valley.  All equipment supplied.  Suitable for ages 3+.   Please dress to suit the weather.  Donation £6 per child

 

FAMILY FISHING

Thursday 5th April – 10.00am-12.00pm, 12.00pm-2.00pm, 2.00pm-4.00pm

Learn the Art of Fishing.  All equipment is provided but if you have your own feel free to bring it along.  Children over the age of 12 will need a 1-day licence from the post office.  You can also get this online or phone them on 0344 800 5386.  We catch and release to water.  £7.00 per person fishing

 

SPRING Bonnets

Wednesday 11th April – 10.00am-11.00am, 11.30am-12.30pm

Make a Spring Bonnet.  Suitable for ages 3+.  Donation £6 per child

 

SPECTACULAR SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS

Thursday 12th April – 10.30am-midday, 1.00pm-2.30pm

Have fun with science and conduct your very own experiments, including Bottle Rockets, Balloon Rocket Racing, Goo and more!  Please dress to suit the weather.  Suitable for ages 5+.

Donation £6 per child

 

BUILD A BAT BOX

Friday 13th April – 2.00pm-4.00pm

Come along to make a bat box to put up in your garden or donate to the country park.  All materials and tools provided.  Suitable for ages 5+.  Donation £6 per box

 

CLAY POTTER’S WHEEL

Saturday 14th April – 10.00am-11.00am, 11.30am-12.30pm

Try your hand at the Potter’s Wheel and make a great clay model as well.  Suitable for ages 5+.   Please dress in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.  Donation £6 per person

Cancellation of Events:

Advance booking and payment is required for the majority of our events.

In the event you wish to cancel a booking:

All cancellations and transfers must occur 24 hours before the session.  Where possible customers can transfer their booking to a different session/activity within one month of original session date.  No refund or transfer can take place if this prevents the session from running.  Only one transfer can be made from a set of block bookings and this must be within one month of the original session date.  All fully booked events will run a waiting list.  Where someone on the waiting list is able to fill the cancelled place a full refund will be given. 

 

Little Badgers Parent And Toddler Group Cancellation:

During the school holidays Little Badgers sessions will be bookable per week.  A number of weeks can be booked in advance.  Unfortunately, pre-paid sessions during term time and school holidays

Will no longer be transferrable either in advance or on the day if you have to cancel

Children’s Birthday Parties

  • Parties usually take place at weekends, from 10.30am-12.30pm or 1.30pm-3.30pm
  • £120.00 deposit and minimum payment (covers the cost for first 10 children),
    £7.00 per additional child on the day including VAT
  • A member of our team will carry out activities with you for the first 1.5 hours of the party. You then have the use of our party room for your games and food for the last 30 minutes. For an additional cost Essex Wildlife Trust is also able to provide food and/or party bags
  • All Parties must be booked in advance. Please call the centre on 01708 520364 or email BethW@essexwt.org.uk for more information or to make a booking.

Room Hire – The Kevin Davis Education and Community Room is available to hire at a charge of £25 + VAT per hour.  Catering services are available from the centre’s café on request.

 

Our winter opening hours (9.00am-4.00pm) are from 1st November to 31st January.

Our summer opening hours (9.00am-5.00pm) are from 1st February to 31st October.

We are open 7 days a week, every day of the year, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

 

Practical Conservation Volunteer Days – The Friends of Ingrebourne Valley and Hornchurch Country Park run Conservation Volunteer Days on a Sunday, usually the third Sunday of the month.
